The completion engineer must have a good understanding of the various types of well and the operations that may have to be performed. Some require methods of artificial lift, be it through gas or pumping, to lift the fluid from the reservoir to the surface. Some treatment or stimulation may also be required later in the life of the well.
Typical activities for a completion engineer working within the oil service sector will include:
discussing requirements for well completions with the customer, the owner, or operator of the well;
participating in the design of the well completion;
providing technical specifications and operating instructions for the equipment required.
They will also be involved in the development and introduction of new technology
